Like most electric guitarists, such as Slash, Django and Jimi, Som only has one name, apparently.
Som was born in London and grew up in the Bay Area, and has been playing music for over 25 years. Originally a blues and rock guitarist, he loves learning and playing other genres and diversifying his own playing style, making Groove Alchemy the perfect association for his sonic explorations. When he’s not playing or composing music, he’s probably thinking about playing or composing music.
Fortunately for us, we did not have to move our rehearsals to London, which though interesting would have created some serious commuting problems as it is even more expensive living there than in the Bay Area. When Som joined our band he was playing with one other band and he had just joined an additional, third band as two bands were not enough and he might have had to endure sleeping like normal musicians manage to do. For some unexplained reason his other two bands seem to have mysteriously disappeared. The Groove Alchemy band members claim they had nothing to do with this but no one seems to know the names of these bands or their members any more, and the local news outlets and fashion influencers will not divulge what has become of these former musicians or why they no longer seem to remember anything at all about their former lives. Groove Alchemy indeed.
What we appreciate most about Som is his impossibly cheerful attitude even when slogging through Led Zeppelin’s saxophone catalog and the grueling, impossible two hour rehearsals filled with chatting about what the band might or might not have done on other planets while gigging for Space X parties. His supportive rhythm playing compliments the sound of the band and his lead lines intertwine with the other three band members’ excursions into new forms currently unknown to record executives and streaming services anywhere on this planet.
